What is Embryo Donation?

Embryo donation is the new pathway to your parenthood which enables couples to experience the joy of parenthood who have struggled with infertility. Usually, when couples undergo IVF procedures, they often have multiple embryos that are unused. We cryopreserved the embryos and put it into for storage for later use. If the resulting couples give their consent to donate their embryos to another couple, then another couple who are struggling with fertility issues due to unknown causes will be able to build their family.

Here, even though the child has no affinity with the genetic connections to the adopting parents, but unlike traditional adoption, the couple won’t have to go through the legal adoption process. It offers the coupes secrecy and privacy and the joy of giving birth to their child.

Who uses Embryo Donation?

Embryo donation is also referred to as embryo adoption, where the recipient mother can carry the adopted embryo into her womb and control the prenatal environment in her womb. Those couples who are not conceiving using their own eggs/sperm for fertility treatment are at risk for passing any genetic diseases to the child or have experienced multiple IVF failures.

What are the Embryo Donation Requirements?

The doctor conducts a physical examination, genetic screening, evaluation of medical history and family medical history, and embryo assessment to evaluate if the couples are a good donor candidate.

What to Expect From the Embryo Donation Process?

The embryo donation or embryo adoption procedure is same as in IVF procedure.

Before the Procedure

Egg Donor and Sperm Donor may have to undergo different kinds of screening before the procedure, such as:

Ovarian reserve testing
Semen analysis
Infectious disease screening
Uterine exam

During the Procedure

Ovarian Stimulation: The egg donor is prescribed certain medications so that eggs are matured and eggs are prepared for fertilization. During her 2nd or 3rd day of the menstrual cycle, when the follicles look promising, then egg donor will receive an injection of hCG, which aid in maturing the eggs.
Egg Retrieval: After the injection, egg retrieval will be scheduled, during which the egg donor will be placed under sedation, and eggs will be collected via an ultrasound-guided needle procedure.
Sperm Collection: The semen of the man will be collected, and it will be washed using treatments, and then the eggs will be placed in a special culture for fertilization. The pregnancy will be conceived through an IVF procedure.
Embryo Transfer: If frozen embryos are used, then the fertilized eggs are frozen and stored for later use. After fertilization, our embryologist will select the healthiest embryos and transfer these to the uterus (women getting pregnant).

After the procedure

After the embryo transfer, you can start your normal daily activities. The success of any IVF procedure depends on various factors such as your age, cause of infertility, and previous treatment results.

That said, usually, IVF gives the best results for becoming pregnant.

Are there any Risks concerning the Procedure?

Embryo donation procedure is usually a low-risk procedure where people use donated embryos before the doctor implants them by in vitro fertilization. The risks are the same as in the IVF procedure.
