Extra fat in your <\/span>liver is termed fatty liver disease or medical practitioners <\/b>call it <\/span>hepatic steatosis<\/b>. Your liver is the second largest organ in your body. It helps process nutrients from food and drinks. It filters harmful substances from your blood. Heavy drinking makes you more likely to get a fatty liver. Over time, too much alcohol leads to a buildup of fat inside your <\/span>liver <\/b>cells. Having small amounts of fat in your liver is normal, but too much can become a\u00a0 health problem. Liver inflammation can be because of too much fat, which can damage your liver and create scarring. In severe cases, this scarring can lead to liver failure. Someone who drinks a lot of alcohol shows a higher risk of the fatty liver known as alcoholic fatty liver disease\u00a0 (AFLD). In someone who doesn\u2019t drink a lot of alcohol, it\u2019s known as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fatty Liver Symptoms\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n

In many cases, fatty liver causes no observable symptoms. But you may feel discomfort and tiredness or pain in the upper right side of your abdomen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some people with fatty liver disease develop complications, including liver scarring. Liver scarring is known as liver fibrosis. If you develop severe liver fibrosis, it is known as cirrhosis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fatty Liver Causes\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n

The development of fatty liver is when your body produces too much fat or doesn\u2019t metabolize fat efficiently enough. The excess fat is stored in liver cells. When the fat gets accumulated, it causes fatty liver disease.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This build-up of fat can be caused by a variety of reasons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For example, drinking too much alcohol can cause alcoholic fatty liver disease. This is the first stage of alcohol-related liver disease. The cause of the fatty liver disease is less clear for those who don\u2019t drink alcohol.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
